Hi Michael,
ML> > Probably so. A couple of days after we adopted him,
ML> > his previous owner called to ask how he was fitting
ML> > into the family. I said something about how much Sam
ML> > liked popcorn; she laughed and said "yes, I forgot
ML> > to tell you about that."
ML> An affinity for people food might not be an
ML> absolute disqualification from showing. Might
I don't know; I do know that we got a great family dog.
ML> even help if it's popcorn - a cheap training
ML> tool.
It's possible that the popcorn was used for training. He was fairly well
trained but our daughter Deborah taught him a few new tricks. (G)
ML> > Some of the dogs in those shows do have "personality"
ML> > but most of them have the "stuck up, I'm a fancy dog"
ML> Perhaps because they have a stuck up, I'm a
ML> fancy person type of owner.
Quite possible; we raised our dogs as family pets. Our daghter Deborah
(the one with 6 dogs currently) had quite an affinity for them. Sam
bonded with her almost from the time we brought him home.
ML> > sort of attitude. Some years ago we watched part of
ML> > the Westminster KC show; a bichon frise had the
ML> > sparkling "personality" the breed is noted for.
ML> > That one ended up the winner of the show.
ML> Not my kind of dog! More marshmallow than
ML> animal.
We rarely brshed Pom-Pom out to full bichon fluffiness; she was a pet
for young children, not a show dog.
ML> > ML> Reminds me of the cartoon of a cat leaning
ML> > ML> up against its owner, the caption being If
ML> > ML> I were as big as you I would eat you.
ML> > A rather big mouse? Somehow that sounds like a James Thurber
ML> cartoon.
ML> Jumping jerboas, someone's taken too big
ML> a leap for me.
ML> > You don't know who James Thurber was?
ML> It's rather what's a large mouse have to do
ML> with what we were talking about.
OK, that clarifies things.
ML> > ML> The sticking points would be extension of
ML> > ML> the travel restrictions or health problems
ML> > ML> - ours or the airline's.
ML> > There should be some recourse if there are unavoidable changes in
ML> plans.
ML> Even at their most predatory, the airlines
ML> offered some recourse, but, as the science
ML> > Some is better than none, even in what airlines
ML> > offer for meals now. (G)
ML> I'd like a side of recourse with that, please.
Hopefully that's possible.
ML> fiction story says, there are greater gods
ML> than Thang.
ML> > I don't know that story.
ML> It was very short. Started with some monster
ML> eating the earth, and while it's digesting,
ML> it gets eaten by someone else.
Burp! Sounds like it would be a fun one to read.
ML> > I've never been closer than 30 miles or so to an airport on Sept. 11
ML> or > most any other day. Air field (Wheeler Army Air Field, in HI),
ML> yes, just > a couple of miles away, but does that count?
ML> I thought of robbing a bank once, but does
ML> that count?
ML> > No, you have to count--the money and then the years
ML> > of the prison term you'll get, once caught. (G)
ML> There are those who manage to make it all
ML> work out.
But most of us get the time, not the money.
ML> > I've made my favorite chocolate cake recipe,
ML> > used a white icing with mint extract replacing
ML> > vanilla. Sprinkled with chocolate chip or
ML> > peppermint pieces, I forget which, but easy and good.
ML> Did you color the icing lurid green to
ML> warn people?
GAG! No, I rarely use food colorings, not sure if I have any on hand
now. I try to get the ones not based on chemical concoctions, using coal
tar and all that garbage--yes, natural ones are available.
ML> > ML> Jambalaya, My Way
ML> > Doesn't everybody have their own way to make it? (G)
ML> But one can also make it somebody else's way
ML> - that one is Ms. Bienvenu(e)'s, and she
ML> apparently thought it newsworthy enough.
ML> > So we'll tweak it to what we want and then call it
ML> > by the same name. (G)
ML> I was going to say that I don't call anything
ML> My Way, but of course there are exceptions to
ML> most rules.
My family friendly chili picked up that name some years ago. Speaking of
chili, it looks like our church Super Bowl/Chili Cook Off isn't going to
happen this year. The restrictions on size of gatherings are limiting
enough that we wouldn't be able to safely hold it.
ML> Gambas al ajillo my way (approximately)
ML> cat: mine, shellfish, appetizer, main
ML> serves: 2
ML> 2 Tb butter
ML> 2 Tb olive oil
ML> 4 cloves garlic, smashed
ML> 8 oz medium shrimp, peeled, deveined
ML> s&p
ML> 1 ts red pepper flakes or to taste
ML> 2 Tb sherry or more
ML> 2 Tb water or more
ML> lemon juice
Looks like a good, easy way to serve shrimp.
